Ryanair passengers down 8%
06.12.11
Ryanair passenger numbers fell by 8 percent in November as it grounded around eighty planes and introduced the first capacity cuts in its history. The budget airline carried 4.68 million passengers compared with 5.06 million last year. Its load factor, the proportion of seat filled, was steady at 80 percent.
Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Leary said in May that Ryanair would ground 80 of 300 planes for the winter season as higher fuel costs made parts of its network unprofitable. November's passenger decline was not as bad as the airline had expected. It thought passengers would be down by 10 percent.
In the twelve months to the end of November Ryanair has 76.7 million booked passengers.
