Emergency landing for Ryanair Stansted bound flight
05.05.08
A Ryanair Boeing 737 passenger plane bound for Stansted Airport had to make an emergency landing at Brno Airport in the Czech Republic after a bird was sucked into one of its jet engines, the airport said yesterday.
The plane had taken off from Brno for Stansted on Saturday when the incident occurred and it turned back. The plane had to complete its takeoff climb then circle for some time in order to empty its reserve tanks as a safety measure.
During the emergency landing the plane also hit a bat, an airport official said. None of the 150 passengers and crew were injured.
It has been an eventful few days for Europe’s biggest budget airline. Last Wednesday one of its planes got stuck in the mud after leaving the runway at a Polish airport, when bound for East Midlands Airport.
