Ryanair passengers down 6%
04.02.12
Ryanair’s January passenger traffic fell by 6% compared to last year. 4.39m passengers flew with the airline last month, compared to 4.66m in January 2011, as the airline took planes out of service because of high fuel prices and weak demand.
The budget airline's load factor for the month was 71%, unchanged from the same period last year. In the 12 months to the end of January the airline carried 76.2m passengers, with an average load factor of 82%.
Ryanair said in a statement: ‘As previously guided, Ryanair’s 2011/12 winter traffic was expected to decline by approximately 5% as we sit up to 80 aircraft on the ground due to higher oil prices.'
