Ryanair to open Canary Island bases
03.12.10
Ryanair has announced that it will base six aircraft in the Canaries from February – two in Gran Canaria, two in Lanzarote and two in Tenerife. It will also increase Fuerteventura routes and frequencies.
The airline carried just 300,000 passengers to the Canary Islands in 2009 after a fallout on subsidies and airport fees. Now, thanks to reduced airport charges for 2010 and 2011 and a 2013 - 2015 Regional Marketing Fund, it will now grow traffic to/from the islands to 4.5m passengers, restoring all of the traffic lost by the Islands between 2007-2009.
