Southampton airport boss to step down

Southampton airport is to lose its popular managing director, David Cumming. He retires at the end of the year.
Mr Cumming became managing director in April 2002, and has led a period of rapid growth and development at the airport. During this time the airport has won a number of awards, including the European Regions Airline Association, 'Airport of the Year 2004 / 05' and the KPMG 'Hampshire Company of the Year'.
He has worked at BAA and its predecessors for 38 years. Mr Cumming is to be replaced by Chris Butler, currently business development director at Stansted airport. Mr Butler will take over as the new MD on 1 January 2006.
