Protest at Southampton Airport
17.02.09
Anti-aviation activists chained themselves to the entrance to Southampton Airport this morning. The protest started around 10:30, with the campaigners erecting tents in a bid to turn it into a 'climate refugee camp'. They were angry at the proposed increase in passenger numbers through the airport.
Officers from Hampshire police's specialist protestors removal team began removing them at 12:15. They used bolt cutters to free the seven campaigners before arresting them on suspicion of aggravated trespass, breach of airport by-laws and breach of health and safety regulations. The operation was completed by 13:30.
