Emergency landing a Southampton Airport
16.08.07
Emergency services rushed to Southampton Airport last night after a plane carrying 117 passengers reported smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
Fire crews from Eastleigh and St. Mary's, police and paramedics were all called to the airport at around 22:00 and were in place to deal with any problems as the Flybe flight from Murcia cam in to land. However the smoke had dispersed by the time the Embraer 195 plane landed successfully at 22:15 and the response crews were stood down.
It was the second night in a row the airport's emergency action plan had been put into use. On Monday night a section of the M27 had to be closed after a pilot reported problems with the landing gear on his light aircraft. The incident also ended without injuries after the Cessna 310 touched down successfully.
