Cocaine bust at Southampton Airport

Cocaine worth more than £200,000 was discovered in a false compartment in a suitcase on a flight to Southampton Airport, the Hampshire Chronicle reports. Roland Castillo, 59, was caught with the drugs having flown in from Cameroon via Paris, a frequent drug mules route.
Mr Castillo, a Dutch national, appeared in court and was remanded in custody until February 16 for details of his previous convictions. He admitted smuggling 1.5 kilograms of the Class A drug with a 100 percent purity.
Southampton Crown Court heard that Mr Castillo – who lives in Holland – had a previous conviction for attempted murder and had been given 10 years by a court in Venezuela for smuggling cocaine into the South American country, which was cut on appeal to 42 months in Holland.
