Alpha One Airways finally takes off from Southampton Airport
15.12.05
Alpha One Airways ran into more trouble, but finally took off from Southampton airport today. After launch attempts at Cambridge and Southampton the airline finally took off Wednesday evening (the morning flight was cancelled due to 'technical difficulties') with a flight from Edinburgh to the Isle of Man using a nine-seat piston engine Piper Chieftain.
The airline - launched by 19 year old Martin Halstead, dubbed 'baby Branson' in the press - plans to launch flights from the Isle of Man to Cardiff on 16 January and to Southampton a week later. However, the airline's web pages appear to be permanently 'under construction' and it is not clear whether these plans have changed. For more information try www.flyalphaone.co.uk.
