Flybe hopes for normal schedule this weekend
14.09.07
Flybe has said that it schedules will return to normal by the weekend following three days of flight cancellations due to emergency aircraft checks. The airline cancelled 30 flights yesterday, despite reports that it expected to run a near normal schedule.
The flights were cancelled after aircraft manufacturer Bombardier instructed the airline to inspect six Q400 turboprop aircraft, meaning that the planes had to be withdrawn from service. The call follows two emergency incidents resulting from a failed landing gear on Q400 aircraft flown by Scandinavian carrier SAS.
Flybe cancelled over 30 flights yesterday, whilst SAS cancelled over 100, including flights between London City Airport and Copenhagen. The carrier is warning of further disruption today, but expects the weekend schedules to be back to normal.
The Q400 is one of four aircraft flown by Flybe and is used predominantly on domestic routes, and flights affected include those from Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Gatwick, Jersey, Newcastle, Manchester, Norwich and Southampton.
Customers whose flights have been cancelled should have been contacted by Flybe and are being offered alternative flights or a full refund of their ticket.
