Flybe flights returning to normal
13.09.07
Passengers travelling on Flybe flights should not experience delays or cancellations today, following the grounding of six of the airline's aircraft yesterday. The UK regional airline grounded six of its Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft while safety checks were carried out on their landing gear.
The move came after two of the planes owned by the Scandinavian Air Service (SAS) crashed on landing in Europe in the past three days (no passengers were injured). Flybe routes affected include those serving the Isle of Man, Gatwick, Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh, Southampton and the Channel Islands.
Worst hit was Southampton Airport, where a total of nine flights to and from Edinburgh, Guernsey and Jersey were cancelled yesterday morning. Throughout yesterday afternoon there were delays from Southampton to Guernsey, Manchester and Edinburgh leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
However, a spokesman said that services were gradually getting back to normal and no further cancellations or delays were expected today. However, Flybe will continue to ground the six Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft until it is given the go-ahead to bring them back into service by the manufacturer.
