Robin Hood Airport firemen half marathon charity run
26.04.08
A group of energetic firemen from Robin Hood Airport are set to run a half-marathon in full fire-fighting uniform for charity tomorrow. The team of three firefighters will take part in the Sheffield half marathon to raise money for the Bassetlaw Hospital Children's Ward.
It is not the first time that the fire station has raised money for charity - they have previously raised cash for the British Heart Foundation and for the fire service's Benevolent Fund and the Sheffield baby care unit.
Dan Bryan, 31, crew commander at the station, said: ‘Lots of the lads at the station have got kids although we have run for a few charities. This is quite a local one that we really wanted to do something for. This will definitely be a challenge. The kit is going to be heavy and, depending on the weather, probably quite hot.’ The other runners are 28-year-old Steve Harding and 23-year-old Billy McDowell.
If you would like to sponsor the runners, you can send cheques made payable to Robin Hood Airport Fire Social Fund and address to Robin Hood Fire and Rescue Service, Old Bawtry Road, Finningley, Doncaster.
