Robin Hood Airport helps groom win wedding
22.02.08
Robin Hood Airport helped a bridegroom-to-be win a £30,000 dream wedding this week. Policeman Andrew Wagg was one of two 'getaway' grooms participating in a radio station competition to win the prize and turned up asking for a free flight out of the country.
The contest run by Derby's Ram FM was to see which contestant could travel the furthest in 24 hours with £100 to spend. Andrew, aged 42, travelled by taxi to Robin Hood Airport. Staff rallied round to help him with his quest and Thomsonfly provided him and his competition chaperone free return flights to Alicante, Spain.
Andrew's rival in the competition tried Birmingham, Heathrow, Luton and Manchester airports but was unsuccessful in obtaining a flight, so he headed back to East Midlands to try his luck but was unable to get a flight from there either. Andrew will share his prize with his bride-to-be Wendy Allen, a nurse.
