robin hood airport begins test flights
18.12.04
Test flights have started at South Yorkshire's new robin hood airport, ahead of its scheduled opening next spring.
When it is operational, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (it's full name), is expected to cater for 2.3 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of freight each year. Trials took place today to calibrate the airport's navigation and landing aids.
Training for ground crew and emergency staff will begin in the new year, and there are expected to be about 40 flights a day during this period. The first commercial flights from the former RAF Finningley are already on sale and will take off at the end of April 2005.
