Work started on new Robin Hood Airport access road

Work has started on a new access road to Robin Hood Airport, which is expected to cut traffic through a nearby village. The new road will mean that airport traffic will not need to drive through parts of Auckley and the new housing estate on the former RAF Finningley base.
Contractors Amec began work at the end of April and the project is expected to take eight months. Traffic disruption will be minimal at the start of the project as much of the work is taking place on land belonging to Peel Holdings, the owner of Robin Hood Airport. However, disruption could occur and a diversion put in place as the work progresses over the summer.
Robin Hood Airport managing director, David Ryall, said: 'The new road is expected to be complete by the end of this year and will enhance access to the airport and the business park. In so doing, it will reduce the amount of traffic through Auckley.'
