Plans for a new railway station, that would improve links to Robin Hood Airport, have moved a step closer to reality. Doncaster Council has asked consultants to assess the feasibility of a station in South Doncaster along the East Coast main line.
In March, plans were submitted to Doncaster Council for a new railway station at the airport which involves creating a spur from the Doncaster to Lincoln line. Airport owner Peel would contribute to capital costs although operational costs are expected to be met by the rail industry.
It is expected that Central Trains, which currently operates services on the route, would use the station and then services operated by other companies would further develop rail access to the flight hub. The new two-platform station includes provision for a 250-space, park and ride car park.
