Weather closes Robin Hood Airport
09.12.08
Robin Hood Airport was forced to close this morning because of icy weather. Services came to a standstill at approximately 07:30 and resumed shortly after 09:00 as overnight rain and plummeting temperatures caused dangerous ice on the runways.
The closure affected three flights including an outbound Ryanair flight to Alicante, which was cancelled. An incoming Ryanair flight from Alicante was forced to divert and land at Leeds Bradford Airport while a Thompson flight to Malaga was delayed by one hour. Services returned to normal at approximately 09:15.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘We have had some ice on the runway which we needed to clear for safety reasons. The runway has been closed for about an hour and a half but was opened just after 09:00 after we used deicer on the runway to clear it.'
