Passengers numbers Robin Hood Airport rose by 17.3% in July compared to the same month last year, as 120,000 passengers passed through the terminal. The airport also recorded its busiest ever month for flights to Amsterdam, Belfast City, Girona (Barcelona), Katowice / Cracow, Malaga, Palma and Pisa / Florence (Italy).
Robin Hood Airport has now handled 2.1 million passengers since opening in April 2005, and serves almost 50 destinations, including Canada, Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean. The airport has enjoyed a steady increase in the number of travellers jetting off overseas thanks to the introduction of new routes to destinations including Eastern Europe and Turkey, with new services to Gdansk and Bodrum proving popular.
The most popular route in July was Thomsonfly's service to Palma de Mallorca, with flights to Dublin and Jersey joining summer services to Malaga and Alicante in the top five.
David Ryall, Robin Hood Airport's managing director, said: 'We are growing choice organically, and new routes that have opened over the past 12 months have firmly embedded themselves into the market. Now we're looking ahead to new routes opening up this winter, including Lanzarote, Sharm el Sheikh, Poznan, Wroclaw and the reintroduction of flights to and from Geneva, a route which is in much demand.'
