Prince to try to open Robin Hood Airport again
08.05.07
Robin Hood Airport bosses are hoping it will be second time lucky for an official Royal opening of the terminal. The Duke of York is set to open the Finningley site on Thursday (May 10), more than a month after he had to postpone a previously planned visit because of fog and over two years after the first commercial flights took off from the airport.
Prince Andrew was due to fly in to open the airport on March 28 - but the trip was cancelled on the morning of the event because the weather stopped him landing. All being well, the prince will meet staff at the airport and tour the site on Thursday. He has already used the airport as a customer - he landed there last September during a visit to South Yorkshire which saw him call at Rotherham and Sheffield.
