New staff at Robin Hood Airport to help in fight against terrorists
06.01.07
A big increase in intelligence information to help combat terrorists and criminals has been notched up at Robin Hood airport, the Doncaster Today newspaper reports. Six additonal staff have been employed at the airport - four officers, an adminsitrator and an information analyst - as part of county-wide moves to counter terrorism.
Chief Constable Med Hughes has revealed that the new staff resulted in a 92 percent increase in intelligence gathered in respect of both national security and criminal activity. Reports from the airport-based staff have been passed on to organisations including MI5, MI6, HM Revenue and Customs and the UK Immigration Service.
Cash for the new staff came from a £1m allocation from the government for counter-terrorism and public protection work.
