Robin Hood Airport boss warns on UK only emissions scheme
05.11.09
A boss at Robin Hood Airport has warned that any deal on aviation industry carbon emmisions must be on a global basis. The airport is a member of the Airport Operators Association and a report commissioned for the association has said that UK-only measures would deal a severe blow to passengers and the wider economy.
In the report it is claimed average fares would rise. If growth in flying were restricted to just 1.5 percent a year, a measure suggested as a UK-only alternative to an international emissions cap, average return air fares could see a 40 percent rise from £258 to £360 by 2020, it says.
Robin Hood Airport's Neil Pakey said: ‘We need to continue to work hard with other parts of the aviation sector to realise a global deal on carbon emissions.’
