New flight paths for Robin Hood Airport
05.07.08
New measures to improve flight safety and enhance air traffic control operations at Robin Hood Airport have been approved. It is hoped the changes on aircraft arrival and departure flight paths will reduce the airport's noise footprint and bring increased environmental benefits.
The Civil Aviation Authority has approved the measures after consultation by the airport with the aviation community, local government and environmental groups. The changes allow for greater use of continual descent approaches, which keep inbound aircraft at higher altitudes for longer, allowing reduced engine power settings and lower fuel consumption, leading to noise and emissions benefits.
Richard Massingham, Manager Air Traffic Services at Robin Hood Airport said: ‘The changes will improve safety for all airspace users whilst delivering important environmental benefits.’
