Robin Hood Airport link road boost
02.02.09
A Robin Hood Airport link road has moved a step closer to reality after a £160 million series of road building schemes in Doncaster were given backing. The Regional Transport Board of the Yorkshire Assembly confirmed the Finningley and Rossington Relief Road Scheme is on its list of priorities for construction over the next 10 years and is calling on the Government to pay toward the scheme. It has also backed plans to widen White Rose Way and the section of the M18 which runs between junctions two and three - the section where the airport road would join with the motorway.
The scheme will now be referred to Minister for Yorkshire Rosie Winterton, who will take it up with the Government. They will still need to confirm it will take the scheme on after considering the business case and environmental impact, but it is the first time the Yorkshire regional organisation has given the scheme its unconditional backing as a priority for the county. Doncaster Council hope to see work start on the relief road by 2013.
