Wind farm near Robin Hood Airport approved
01.03.08
Contraversial plans to build a wind farm at Tween Bridge, Thorne, have been given the go-ahead after a public inquiry. Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks announced power firm E.on can build 22 turbines at the site, as well as 39 turbines at Keadby, North Lincolnshire.
The scheme was initially opposed by green campaigners and Robin Hood Airport, which claimed the scheme could interfere with radar. However, it is understood an agreement was reached between their airport and the power firm over a new radar system.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England had also opposed the scheme, claiming it would cause harm to the landscape setting and tranquillity of a nationally-valued area. E.on says The 66MW Thorne project will generate enough clean, green energy to power up to 26,500 homes.
