Prestwick Airport boss ‘confident’

Airlines are cutting flights and travel companies are disappearing, but Prestwick Airport’s top man has never been more confident, the Ayrshire Post reports.
It’s been high profile bust rather than boom for the airport in recent weeks, with the failure of holiday company Seguro hitting Prestwick hard. The company flew more than 70,000 passengers per year out of Ayrshire and their demise has led many to predict tough times for the airport.
But Mark Rodwell is refusing to let an industry slump give him grey hairs. The chief executive says Prestwick could emerge smiling from the current airline crisis. He told the newspaper: Seguro were important to us, but they were a small portion of our business operation.'
'These are tough times for the industry as a whole and the challenge facing everyone in the short term is aircraft availability. Admittedly it will be tight for a time, but there are still plenty of people who want to fly and we’re confident of our position.’
Prestwick are already sourcing a replacement for Seguro, which made up 5 percent of their 2.4 million passenger total per year. And Mr Rodwell says their future is secure. He said: ‘We are particularly lucky that we have two of the strongest operators in the industry – Ryanair and Wizz Air. They will be the long term winners from all of this and we have them here at Prestwick.'
