Passengers and freight down at Prestwick Airport

Prestwick Airport has suffered big drops in passengers and freight traffic, the Post reports. The number of passengers using the airport so far this year fell to 2,162,521 – a 3 percent drop on the same period last year. According to Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe freight traffic in February this year is down by 56 percent on February 2008.
However, Mr Donohoe said: ‘Under the circumstances I would say that, particularly with passenger numbers, the airport is still performing better than expected. I am keeping a close eye on the situation and will be continuing to have dialogue with both management at the airport and trade union representatives.’
