'No evidence of torture flights'
25.11.05
Scotland's Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd, has told MSPs he had no evidence to order a police probe into claims that Glasgow and Prestwick airports are being used to assist secret CIA 'torture flights'.
Campaigners say the UK could be acting illegally by allowing Prestwick, Glasgow and other airports to be used for refuelling stops on flights they claim may be used to take terror suspects to US-friendly regimes where torture can be used in interrogations.
Strathclyde Police has already refused a request by Green South of Scotland MSP Chris Ballance to investigate the claims, saying it cannot act on 'speculation'.
