New Ryanair hangar opens at Prestwick Airport
17.02.11
Ryanair has opened a second maintenance hangar at Prestwick Airport, which will create up to 200 new jobs. The £8m facility, plus its existing hangar which opened in 2004, will support more than 400 jobs to maintain Ryanair's fleet of 260 aircraft.
The facility was officially opened on Tuesday by First Minister Alex Salmond and Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary. The Scottish government contributed £1.5m towards the cost of the hangar through a series of grants.
Mr Salmond said: ‘Despite competition for a number of European locations, Ryanair chose to open a second hangar in Ayrshire. This is testament to the skills and quality of the local workforce. The airline's commitment to expand its operations in Ayrshire builds on Prestwick's reputation as a centre for European excellence in maintenance, repair and overhaul projects.’
