Prestwick Airport owners upbeat despite 28% drop in passengers

14.11.09

Infratil, the owners of Prestwick Airport, have said they were upbeat about the airport's future prospects despite recording a huge fall in passengers. Just 152,000 passengers flew from the airport in October, a 28% fall on the same month last year. However, Infratil said that the drop was in line with recent trends.

Prestwick Airport's Chief Commercial Officer Graeme Sweenie said extra Ryanair sun flights would hasten the airport's recovery. He said: ‘2009 has certainly been a challenging year for the airport but our underlying position and future prospects are excellent. Glasgow Prestwick is now Scotland's premier gateway to European hotspots.'
