Passengers up 1% at Prestwick Airport
13.12.07
Prestwick Airport handled 163,389 passengers during the month, up 1% on November 2006. The airport also reported a 1% passenger growth last month.
Passenger growth in November came as a result of Ryanair services to Derry, Belfast and Kaunas, and Wizz Air's Katowice route. Ryanair also launched a new three times weekly service to Budapest at the start of November, which has performed well in its first month.
However, the airport said that further Ryanair expansion is unlikely after discussions about a significant future phase of growth ended with the parties unable to reach mutually acceptable commercial terms.
The airport handled 3,001 tonnes of freight in November. This represents increases of 4% on November 2006 and 15% on last month's figures. Performance was helped by a strong month for seasonal produce, and equipment for the North Sea oil and gas industries. The year to date freight volume remains 3% ahead of the equivalent period in 2006.
Prestwick Airport continues to benefit from ongoing investment in new facilities, and November saw the completion of resurfacing works to the main runway.
