Prestwick Airport security trial delayed
12.09.06
The trial of three people charged with breaching security at Prestwick airport has been postponed until 8 December. They were among 17 people arrested at the airport last month during protests. It is reported that the trial has been put back so further investigations can be carried out.
Sylvia Boyes, 65, from Keighley, West Yorkshire, Katherine Halcombe, 45, from Evesham, Worcestershire and Rosalind Bullen, 36, of Edinburgh, were due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court accused of gaining access to the runway at Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire. The were arrested during protests against Prestwick Airport being used used by US planes supplying 'hazardous' material to the Israeli armed forces.
They appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last month charged with contravening the Aviation Security Act by entering a restricted zone of an aerodrome. Bail was denied for Ms Boyes but granted for Ms Halcombe and Ms Bullen on condition that they do not enter or attempt to enter the terminal building at Prestwick Airport and that they do not go within a 500m radius of the perimeter fence.
An intermediate hearing will be held on 23 November before a trial on 8 December.
