Ryanair to axe three Prestwick routes this winter
10.06.11
Ryanair is to axe three routes from Prestwick Airport, leaving it with half the network this winter that it had two years ago. The cuts take effect from November and the budget airline blamed soaring oil prices for its decision, which will see it ground 80 planes this winter.
It will axe flights from Prestwick to Girona in Spain, Stansted and the Austrian ski resort of Salzburg. The move follows similar reductions at Edinburgh and Stansted, and means the airline will fly to 12 destinations over winter from Prestwick, concentrating on sunspots such as Malaga, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. Its winter schedule has shrunk from 24 destinations in 2009 to 15 in 2010 and now 12 in 2011.
