Third security breach at Prestwick Airport
08.08.06
Five people have been arrested after anti-war campaigners boarded an aircraft at Prestwick Airport. In the third security breach in three days at the airport, activists boarded a US Air National Guard plane, campaign group Trident Ploughshares said.
The group said they searched documents on the plane but were stopped by airport staff as they tried to board a second one. They say that they are investigating the transportation of arms to Israel, via the UK, on US military aircraft.
The latest security breach at Prestwick Airport, which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, came less than 24 hours after eight people were arrested when protesters boarded a plane. On Sunday, four people were arrested after demonstrators got onto the main runway.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said five people had been arrested on suspicion of breaching aviation regulations.
