Prestwick Airport terror flight protestors 'posed as UN inspectors'
02.12.06
Five demonstrators accused of storming an American military plane during a nighttime raid at Prestwick Airport airport posed as United Nations weapons inspectors, a court has heard.
The protesters were among 17 people charged with breaching security at Ayrshire's Prestwick Airport in August. Ayr Sheriff Court heard of a standoff between security staff and five people who got on to a Hercules C130 aircraft at the airport.
However, a spokesman for the group said: 'We did not pose as anything. We neither claimed to be UN staff not wore any clothing to indicate the such. As part of our evidence we provided photographs showing us carrying placards: quite obviously not a UN Inspectors Best Practice.'
'Our action was an inspection and not a protest, and you do not have to storm planes that are unlocked.'
The five on trial were acquitted yesterday.
