£200 fine for smoking in plane toilet
01.01.10
A man who was caught smoking in an plane toilet on a flight to Prestwick Airport has been fined £200, the Ayrshire Post repots. Gary McKerrell quickly flushed the cigarette down the loo when he was challenged by cabin crew, but at Ayr Sheriff Court this week he admitted endangering an aircraft.
Mr McKerrell, 48, of Kilmarnock, committed the offence on November 23 on a flight from Lanzarote to Prestwick Airport. He pleaded guilty to recklessly or negligently acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft or any person therein by smoking onboard. He told the court he was waiting for a hernia operation at the time of the offence and had no painkillers left at the end of a week long holiday. Mr McKerrell claimed smoking was the only way he could relax. Sheriff Montgomery fined him £200.
