Opium found in chocolate bars East Midlands Airport

11.07.06

Drugs with a street value of more than £100,000 have been found concealed inside chocolate bars at Nottingham East Midlands Airport, according to a report on the BBC website.

Customs officers said 1.5kg (3.3lbs) of pure opium had been found in a consignment of 30 Metro chocolate bars. The substance can be used to produce heroin, which would have a street value of around £135,000.

The haul from Turkey was en-route to an address in Liverpool. Merseyside Police have charged two men with conspiracy to supply a class A drug. They are due to appear at Crown Court at a later date.
