East Midlands Airport introduces green airport parking scheme
14.06.06
East Midlands Airport has announced a plan to donate £1 from every online car parking booking to an environmental charity. The money will go to the National Forest.
The National Forest is a 'forest in the making', spanning 200 square miles in the Midlands. The money donated will go towards planting at least 10,000 trees. The first trees will be planted in November on a site near the airport.
East Midlands airport has already invested over £2 million in environmental schemes over the past ten years and believes the new airport parking scheme will go even further to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
The airport's managing director, Penny Coates, said: 'By supporting the creation of the National Forest, through tree-planting and habitat creation, we are making a valuable contribution, including the absorption of CO2 through planting trees, to the improvement of the environment around the airport.'
