Dental patients snapping up Nottingham East Midlands - Poland flights
12.12.05
The lure of low-cost dental work may be filling seats on budget airline Ryanair flights from Nottingham East Midlands airport to Poland, one local newspaper claims. Several Polish dental clinics have even started advertising in Ryanair's in-flight magazines, having recognised the potential strength of the market from Britain.
Two months before the low-cost airline launches flights to Wroclaw and Lodz from Nottingham East Midlands, it says demand for seats is sky high. So far, Ryanair has sold 7,000 seats on flights to the two Polish destinations and Limoges and Bergerac in France, which launch in February.
Two thousand of the seats are on flights to Wroclaw, which has one of the most up-to-date dental practices in the country - called 'Royal Dent'. Lodz is close behind.
Ryanair's head of sales and marketing in Europe, Caroline Baldwin, said: 'It's not the sort of information we collect from passengers but I have been told by several customers flying out of Stansted that they are going to Poland only for cheap dental treatment.'
Despite demand for tickets, Ryanair yesterday announced a one million-seat giveaway for passengers using Nottingham East Midlands Airport. The offer, which will see flyers paying only airport charges and taxes on seats are available on flights from East Midlands to Shannon, Dublin, Barcelona, Rome and Murcia, will run for a week.
Ryanair predicted in September, when it announced Nottingham East Midlands as its fifth UK base, that it would carry 1.2 million passengers on routes from there next year, double this year's figure. It also said it expected numbers to double again the following year to 2.5 million.
