11.10.06
Ryanair is to open its 18th European base at Madrid's Barajas Airport, with the low-cost airline investing €167.6m in three new aircraft and launching 14 new routes from the airport, serving an estimated one million passengers each year.
The airline will fly daily between Madrid and Nottingham East Midlands Airport, Dublin, Eindhoven, Faro, Porto, Marseille and Paris, as well as services to Shannon, Billund, Brussels, Oslo, Bournemouth, Gothenburg and Malmo.
Ryanair announced another base in Spain last month, at Girona airport, near Barcelona. Its rival, easyJet named Madrid as a base for European and domestic flights from February, but few of the two airlines' routes will overlap.
