East Midlands airport traffic warning
10.09.06
Passengers for East Midlands Airport are being warned that traffic around the airport could be very heavy today. Congestion is expected in the area because of the Renault World Series, a motor racing event being held at nearby Castle Donington race circuit.
Traffic management systems and temporary traffic lights are in place to try to reduce delays. But officials urged people to allow extra time for their journeys.
Ryan Martinez, spokesman for the airport, said: 'We're expecting heavier traffic in and around the Castle Donington area and we're urging all our passengers to be a bit more prepared. Allow plenty of time so you don't get stuck in traffic and then you'll be more relaxed if you allow the time and not get stuck in the car.'
Martinez added that people should stick to the main routes for the airport and avoid the villages of Melbourne and Castle Donington.
