Snow leaves easyJet passengers stranded abroad
01.01.06
Budget airline easyJet has apologised to its customers after severe weather in Europe left British holidaymakers stranded abroad. Airports including Prague, Budapest and Basle were closed due to the weather. The airline said it was unfortunate flights had to be cancelled but the situation was beyond their control.
Snowy conditions led to flight cancellations and closures at several European airports, but some passengers were critical of cancellations, saying they were left without hope of finding accommodation.
Passengers were especially critical of the airline's decision to cancel a flight from Prague to Nottingham East Midlands Airport. On who managed to travel back to Britain on an alternative flight, said queues to rebook flights at Prague airport were horrendous. 'People were being left stranded in Prague the day before New Year's Eve without any hope of finding accommodation,' she said.
In response an easyJet spokesman said: 'We try where we can to help our passengers, but clearly in this case we weren't able to give them any hotel accommodation because there wasn't any available.'
'At this time of year when we have snowy weather across Europe and airports are closed, unfortunately flights get cancelled and we apologise for that, but they are circumstances beyond our control.'
