Norwich Airport announce concession over flight levy
29.03.07
Norwich Airport has made a partial climb-down over its controversial new £3 per passenger flight tax. It has promised to refund passengers who bought tickets before the new levy was announced, the Eastern Daily Press reports.
The Airport Development Fee (ADF) is being introduced to help pay for an £18m programme of development at the airport. However, the £3-a-flight fee has come under fire from passengers who bought tickets unaware that it was due to be introduced. Budget airline Flybe also called for talks over the fee and holiday company First Choice has complained to the Civil Aviation Authority.
Now all passengers who booked flights or holidays before March 12 will be eligible for a refund on the ADF cost. Passengers will still have to buy a ticket to pass through the ADF barriers but on their return can apply for a refund.
Managing director Richard Jenner said: 'In response to the feedback we have had from people since announcing our plans for a charge we have decided to make this concession, which ensures that no passenger who booked before March 12 needs to feel they have been misled. We remain committed to this charge, which will provide the funding required for a significant expansion of capacity and services at Norwich International but also believe it is important that we listen to our customers.'
