New security breach at Norwich Airport

Security at Norwich Airport has been breached again, after a lost driver tailgated a fuel lorry through a perimeter gate, the BBC reports. The motorist drove unchallenged to the apron where passengers board aircraft.
Management at the airport said security issues had been addressed after two BBC reporters twice got into the airport by following other vehicles in April. Airport managing director Richard Jenner told the BBC that he was happy with security, but declined to comment further. However, the Department for Transport described the latest breach as ‘unacceptable’.
An airport worker told the BBC the Volvo had followed the fuel lorry through a barrier which was operated by the driver. The barrier is now operated by airport personnel. The car travelled 400 metres beyond the perimeter fence last Wednesday. The incident mirrors the actions of BBC reporters who had been tipped off about security concerns, and on two separate occasions tailgated other vehicles into controlled areas.
When shown footage of the reporters accessing restricted areas of the airport site, managing director Mr Jenner said last month: ‘I am confident nobody can get in by tailgating a car. It is clear that you did identify a potential weakness in our security arrangements but we have now addressed this to ensure that they can't possibly happen again.’
In a statement, the Department for Transport told the BBC: ‘This second incident is unacceptable and we have spoken to the airport management to establish how it happened. Robust action is being taken... which will involve increased inspection of the airport...to ensure that appropriate action has been and continues to be taken.’
