Flybe plan new Norwich - France flights
13.10.07
Low cost carrier Flybe, the main airline operating from Norwich Airport, said yesterday that it plans to launch a number of new destinations to France in the coming months. However, there are no plans to reinstate winter flights to Spanish destinations Malaga and Alicante from the airport.
Speaking as the airline announced record profits and plans to list on the stock market, chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said the French expansion plans followed the popularity of the daily flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle from Norwich, which started in February last year. Details of the new destinations will be announced at the end of the month.
Mr Rutter said: 'We are very happy with domestic and city routes out of Norwich and intend to build on this success. We are hoping to make an announcement on new routes in the next three weeks, including more French routes.'
He said the twice-daily flights to Manchester, which started in February 2006, had proved popular, along with flights to Edinburgh. However, he added that competition from rival Stansted meant winter flights to Malaga and Alicante are not viable from Norwich.
