Northrepps Airport shut after two runway incidents
14.10.05
A Norfolk airfield has been temporarily closed after two aircraft overshot the runway 10 days apart.
A pilot and two passengers were injured when their Piper Cherokee overshot the runway at Northrepps International Airport, near Cromer, on Monday. Ten days earlier a twin-engine Cessna also overshot the runway and skidded onto the road. No-one was injured.
On Thursday, the site's owner, Simon Gurney, said the airstrip would close for two months for a risk assessment. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been called in. The airfield is usually open to light aircraft and helicopters which apply in advance for permission to land.
