Newquay Airport closure report identifies poor communication
01.08.09
An inquiry into a three-week closure of Newquay Airport last December, which cost taxpayers £460,000, identified poor communication between those involved in the project and inadequate staffing to deal with the workload. The report also concluded that problems should have been flagged up sooner.
The airport was closed in December as Cornwall's council had not got a Civil Aviation Authority licence in time to take over the airport from the RAF on 1 December. However, despite the difficulties encountered, the report said the transition was 'a success'.
