easyJet drops winter Newcastle - Nice flights

Low cost airline easyJet will not operate flights between Newcastle and Nice this winte. The airline has announced that poor sales have forced the withdrawal of the route, the cheapflights.co.uk website reports.
The route to the south of France had operated continuously for the past two years. easyJet's move comes soon after bmibaby said it would end its service to Nice from Durham Tees Valley, and is a blow to travellers from the North East. There are now no local airports serving Nice in the winter, although easyJet has said flights will return in April and operate during the summer months.
An easyJet spokesman said that aircraft would be used to serve domestic routes and that there would be increased flights to Stansted, Bristol and Belfast from Newcastle.
