Newcastle Airport for sale?
21.04.11
Managers at Newcastle Airport are refusing to comment on speculation that it could be put up for sale, the North Shields Gazette reports. Copenhagen Airports, which owns 49 percent of the airport, has put its stake up for sale after its backers, Australian group Macquarie Bank, decided to withdraw from the sector.
The remaining 51 percent is owned by the seven local authorities in Northumberland, Durham, and Tyne and Wear, and suggestions that they may also sell have not been denied. A spokeswoman for South Tyneside Council, which acts as the lead authority for the group, said: ‘We do not wish to comment.’ Council bosses have a veto over the sale of the Copenhagen stake.
