Former Newcastle Airport boss insists 'inquiry will clear me'

The former boss of Newcastle Airport has insisted an investigation will clear his name. The claim comes after the resignation of the airport's former Chief executive John Parkin was announced last week.
Mr Parkin was relieved of his day-to-day duties in March, when airport bosses announced an inquiry had been launched into 'certain personal contractual issues'. On Friday, nearly two months after his suspension, it was announced that he had resigned with immediate effect.
Speculation has been rife over the circumstances of Mr Parkin's suspension, but over the last two months airport bosses have refused to release any further details. Speaking for the first time since his suspension, Mr Parkin told the Newcastle Journal that he would be vindicated during the probe into 'contractual issues'.
In a statement, he said: 'Due to the ongoing inquiry, it would be inappropriate for me to comment in full at this time for legal reasons. However, I am confident that I have fulfilled all of my contractual obligations to Newcastle Airport and that the inquiry will confirm this in due course. I would only add that I am very proud of my record as chief executive of Newcastle International since 2002 and of my achievements while in that post.'
