Newcastle Airport cuts parking charges

Newcastle Airport has responded to customer feedback by reducing the parking charges at its pick-up and drop-off site, the Echo reports. Prices have been halved to £1 for 20 minutes' parking. Other tariffs have been cut, with a £1 reduction on stays of 30 minutes and £1.60 off the cost of a 45-minute stay.
The airport has also retained the five-minute free parking period for customers who do not wish to visit the airport terminal. A spokesman said that 80% of the 1.5 million customers using this facility each year do so free of charge.
George Nesbitt, business development manager at Newcastle Airport, told the newspaper: ‘Our aim is to provide more affordable parking for customers who wish to park and visit the airport terminal to meet or greet passengers. I hope our customers will agree that the price reductions are a welcome move and indicate that we listen to customers' views and take their feedback seriously.'
‘We are also pleased to have reduced our parking charges at a time when customers are feeling increasing financial pressure in the current economic climate. Our car park revenue continues to be used to help us attract new airlines and routes [by reducing landing fees] and to invest in upgrading our facilities for the benefit of passengers.’
